NORWALK A Sheffield, Ohio man was arrested late Friday after leading several police agencies on a 24-mile chase at high speeds, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

Anthony Hartman, 28 was booked in the Huron County Jail and faces charges for speeding, driving under suspension, operating a vehicle under the influence, and felony fleeing. The incident remains under investigation.

According to the Norwalk post, a trooper attempted to stop a car for traveling 79 mph in a 55 mph zone at about 9:24 p.m. Friday in Huron County. The vehicle was westbound on U.S. 20, just east of U.S. 250, in Norwalk Township.

Instead of stopping, the driver increased his speed to as high as 100 mph and continued westbound on U.S. 20 toward the city of Bellevue, where troopers from the Sandusky post joined the pursuit. The 17-minute pursuit traveled through the cities of Bellevue and Clyde and ended when Sandusky County Sheriff s deputies deployed road spikes near the city of Fremont, forcing the vehicle to stop.

The suspect, who was driving with a suspended license and had consumed alcohol, was taken into custody, the highway patrol said.
