A central city man and his girlfriend were found dead early this morning in what Toledo police are calling a murder-suicide.

Responding to witnesses' reports of shots fired and a person screaming just after 4 a.m., police found the body of Tonya McKinley, 45, in the basement of an apartment building in the 2200 block of Auburn Avenue. She had been shot multiple times, according to Sgt. Tim Noble.

Witnesses described the vehicle in which they believed the suspect fled, which led police to a home in the 1900 block of Front Street. At 5:20 a.m., they found the suspect, Marcus Staples, 49, in the kitchen, dead from a gunshot wound to the head.

Sergeant Noble said preliminary indications are that Ms. McKinley and Mr. Staples lived together in the Auburn Avenue apartment building.

Police are continuing their investigation.
