A West Toledo man accused of choking his live-in girlfriend and trying to drown her in a bathtub filled with hot water was arrested yesterday, police said.

Ronald Donbrowsky, 28, whose name also was spelled Donbrosky, was released from the Lucas County jail after posting $7,500 bond on domestic violence and assault. During arraignment in Toledo Municipal Court, he was ordered to have no contact with the victim, who is the mother of his two children.

Police responded to a domestic violence call at the couple's home, 3847 Hazelhurst Ave., at about 12:15 a.m. Officers were told the suspect had assaulted the girlfriend. He allegedly filled the bathtub with hot water, then tried to hold her head underwater, police said.

The victim broke free and ran across the street for help, but was followed by the suspect. They struggled on a neighbor's front porch. The suspect went home and locked himself and the children inside, police said.

Police tried to contact the suspect several times, to no avail. They forced entry through the front door and found him in an upstairs bedroom. He was taken into custody without incident, and the children were found unharmed.

They were left with a grandfather who was at the scene, police said.
