Two North Toledoans arrested in shooting at car

6/15/2007

Two North Toledoans were arraigned yesterday, accused of shooting out the window of a car occupied by a man, his wife, and their children.

Autumn Oestreich, 18, and Tyrone Hutchinson, 26, both of 830 Elm St., were charged with felonious assault and carrying concealed weapons. Hutchinson also was charged with tampering with evidence and weapons under disability.

Ms. Oestreich, who also had a resisting arrest charge, was released from the Lucas County jail after posting $60,000 bond. Hutchinson was in jail in lieu of $80,000 bond. Both appeared in Toledo Municipal Court.

Toledo police Detective Dan Navarre was standing in the road at Lagrange Street and Delaware Avenue, investigating a robbery, when Frederick Clark drove up to him with his wife and children in their car about 8:35 p.m. Wednesday.

Mr. Clark, 43, of Toledo, pointed at a car that was traveling south on Lagrange and said the occupants shot out his car window at Lagrange and Central Avenue. Court records indicate that three of the six people in the car were children and that the rear window was shattered. A police report states the children were 13 years old.

The detective notified dispatch and tried to follow the suspects, who were being followed by the victims. Officers saw the suspect car, driven by Ms. Oestreich, traveling north on Stickney Avenue at Spring Street and stopped it.

Police saw Hutchinson throw a handgun out the window, over the fence at a cemetery. Both suspects were arrested. Police found a second, loaded handgun in the glove box.

While at police headquarters, Ms. Oestreich complained of injuries that occurred during her arrest and was taken to a local hospital.

Hutchinson has a prior aggravated robbery conviction in Lucas County Common Pleas Court, according to one complaint in Municipal Court.
