Michigan man is charged after chase

SANDUSKY - A Lansing man who authorities said led state troopers on a 40-mile chase on the Ohio Turnpike at speeds of up to 110 mph through parts of Erie, Lorain, and Cuyahoga counties yesterday morning - and threw bags of cocaine out his window along the way - was being held in the Erie County Jail last night.

Bashid White, 33, was charged with destruction of evidence, fleeing and eluding, aggravated drug trafficking, and possession of crack cocaine.

A trooper attempted to stop Mr. White shortly after 10 a.m. for following another vehicle too closely near the Sandusky-Norwalk exit for U.S. 250, a patrol spokesman said.

Mr. White did not pull over until road spikes that troopers deployed flattened a tire on the car he was driving, the patrol spokesman said.

Mr. White is to be arraigned today in Erie County Court.
