Bedford Township man faces several charges

TEMPERANCE - A Bedford Township man accused of driving 114 mph on Samaria Road while drunk and without a valid license fled on foot from a sheriff's deputy who pulled him over, hid in thick brush, and then struck the sheriff's department's dog that tracked him down, authorities said.

The dog, Nitro, bit Douglas Case, 22, in the arm Thursday evening, Monroe County sheriff's Sgt. Jeff Kemp said.

Mr. Case announced he was giving up but then scuffled with a deputy who dragged Mr. Case out of the brush to handcuff him.

The incident started shortly after 8 p.m. when Deputy Tim George allegedly clocked Mr. Case driving 114 mph on Samaria at Jackman Road in Bedford Township.

Mr. Case pulled over about 1 1/2 miles later and fled on foot, Sergeant Kemp said.

After about 20 minutes, Mr. Case was found by the sheriff's dog.

His injury from the dog's bite was inspected at Mercy Memorial Hospital, Monroe, and Mr. Case was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, operating a vehicle under the influence of drugs, driving with a suspended license, and resisting arrest.

He posted a $1,000 bond to leave the Monroe County jail yesterday, after he was arraigned in Monroe County's First District Court.
