Turnpike chase suspect in court on drug charges

6/30/2007

SANDUSKY A Lansing man who Ohio Highway Patrol troopers said led them on a 40-mile chase on the Ohio Turnpike at speeds of up to 110 mph Thursday while throwing bags of cocaine out of his window was arraigned yesterday in Erie County Court.

Bashid White, 33, was charged with destruction of evidence, fleeing and eluding, aggravated drug trafficking, and possession of crack cocaine after leading troopers through parts of Erie, Lorain, and Cuyahoga counties.

He was being held in the Erie County jail on $300,000 bond.

A trooper attempted to stop Mr. White for following another vehicle too closely near the Sandusky-Norwalk exit for U.S. 250. He pulled over after spikes flattened a tire on his car.
