A veteran Toledo police officer was charged with drunken driving Thursday after she was stopped about 1 a.m. on southbound I-75 near Detroit Avenue for not staying within her lane while driving, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

Maureen Wade, 36, who was appointed to the police force in 1993, was charged with operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and failure to drive within marked lanes, troopers at the patrol s Bowling Green post said.

Officer Wade was off duty at the time of the stop, Toledo police Chief Mike Navarre said.

Troopers said she was driving a personal vehicle and was not wearing a police uniform.

Officer Wade failed the field sobriety test and was taken to the Bowling Green post to take a Breathalyzer test, which she refused, troopers said.

Officer Wade has been placed on limited-duty status, Chief Navarre said.

She s not working the street, not driving a car, and there will be an administrative investigation in addition to the highway patrol s investigation, Chief Navarre said.
