Tips sought on vehicle break-ins at metroparks

8/4/2007

Toledo Area Metroparks rangers are seeking information through the Crime Stopper program about a series of motor vehicle break-ins at Wildwood and Swan Creek metroparks.

Credit cards and checkbooks were taken from parked vehicles, either by breaking a window or by reaching through an open window, Gary Grime, director of ranger services, said. The thieves were able to make fake ID cards with information stolen from the vehicles, allowing them to use the credit cards and to write checks, Mr. Grime said.

Much of the shopping spree took place in Springfield and Sylvania townships, Mr. Grime said.

At Lowe s on Airport Highway, video cameras captured images of a man and a woman at the checkout. The woman was black, had bleached-blond hair, and was about 6 feet, 2 inches tall. The man was black, appeared to be bald, and was about 5 feet, 11 inches tall. Both were stocky.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stopper.
