Oregon police shot dead a family s dog as it was attacking its owner, a 32-year-old man, inside his home where officers initially tried to stun the dog with a Taser, but missed, Police Sgt. Ed Depinet said.

David Kimbrell of 208 South Whittlesey Ave. was treated at Bay Park Community Hospital for bite wounds to his hands, arms, and legs after the attack at 10:30 p.m. Saturday, Sergeant Depinet said.

The Lucas County Dog Warden s office took possession of the dead dog, a 7 or 8-year-old boxer named Mason that the Kimbrell family had owned for about six months, the sergeant said.

The brindle-colored dog, which weighed 75 to 80 pounds, turned on Mr. Kimbrell when he was disciplining his 13-year-old daughter, the sergeant said.

When police arrived, Mr. Kimbrell was holding down the dog, which appeared tired after attacking him.

But then the dog appeared to get a second wind and started biting him again.

After missing the dog with a Taser, officers shot the dog once, which did not stop its attack. An officer then killed the dog, the sergeant said.
