DELPHOS, Ohio A woman going through some things at her parents home opened a trunk that had belonged to her great-grandfather and discovered several explosives, apparently from World War II, authorities said.

Sherri Kunz summoned police, who found two grenades, two mortars and one military style flare and called in other authorities Tuesday, detective Dale Metzger said. The bomb squad from nearby Lima determined that one grenade, one mortar and the flare were live, and they were taken to a quarry in this western Ohio city and were detonated safely, police said.

The grenade and mortar that were duds were given to Kunz as souvenirs.

Delphos is about 70 miles south of Toledo.
