Church struck by lightning in Swanton

SWANTON A fire caused by a lightning early today damaged the former Swanton Missionary Church building on Lincoln Avenue near Church Street in the village, authorities said. No injuries were reported.

The fire at the building, which is at 204 Lincoln, started about 1 a.m. when a lightning struck the church steeple. The fire was extinguished a short time later before it could spread beyond the steeple area, firefighters said.

No injuries have been reported at this time.
