Oregon police begin 2-week traffic blitz

8/16/2007

Oregon police will be conducting another traffic blitz, this time for more than two weeks beginning tomorrow and running through the Labor Day weekend.

Officers will target impaired drivers, speeders, and seat-belt violators on State Rts. 2 and 51, Starr Avenue, South Wheeling Street, and I-280, Sgt. Ed Depinet said.

The traffic blitz is part of the Over the Limit, Under Arrest national mobilization, the sergeant said. The overtime enforcement will be paid for by a grant from the Governor s Office on Highway Safety.

The last time the police department participated in a traffic enforcement detail was on Saturday.

Using aerial speed enforcement from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on State Rt. 2 from Lallendorf Road to the city s eastern limit, police and Ohio Highway Patrol troopers cited 25 motorists for speed violations and one for failing to wear a seat belt.
