A South Toledo man who authorities said killed a woman Saturday night after holding her hostage in his apartment was being held in the Lucas County jail in lieu of a $1 million bond.

Lawrence Jameson, 46, of 2423 South Holland-Sylvania Rd. was arraigned yesterday in Toledo Municipal Court on a murder charge stemming from the fatal shooting of Tammy Bowlin Macrae, 47, at the Oak Hill Apartments. He was bound over to the county grand jury.

Ms. Macrae died from two gunshot wounds one to her head and the other to her chest, Dr. Cynthia Beisser, a county deputy coroner, said.

The incident began about 5 p.m. Saturday when a woman told a 911 operator she was being held against her will by a man who claimed to have rigged explosives to the apartment s door. He surrendered after a four-hour standoff; Ms. Macrae was found dead when police entered the apartment.
