MONROE - Authorities yesterday searched for a man who attempted to abduct a girl, 10, Thursday in Monroe County's Frenchtown Township as she was walking home from a bus stop, sheriff's deputies said.

The man drove up to the girl about 4 p.m. near Laurel Street in Newport, Mich., and asked if she wanted a ride. The girl ran home and the man drove away, deputies said.

The suspect was described as white, about 50, with a medium build, gray hair, and a gray beard. He was driving an older-model red pickup truck with a red cap on the bed of the truck, deputies said.
