BOWLING GREEN A Wood County sheriff s deputy was treated at Wood County Hospital Monday night after, authorities said, an inmate at the jail punched him at least three times in the face.

Deputy Gary Bockbrader, 57, handed a dinner tray to inmate Jose A. Jaso, 23, of Perrysburg about 5:20 p.m., shortly after Mr. Jaso got off the telephone. The deputy asked Mr. Jaso if he wanted water, and Mr. Jaso responded by punching him in the face with a closed fist, authorities said.

The deputy wrestled him to the floor and handcuffed him.

Mr. Jaso, who has been in the jail since Aug. 10 on a domestic violence charge, was charged with assault for the latest incident. Bond was set at $30,000 yesterday during a video arraignment by Bowling Green Municipal Court Judge Mark Reddin on the new charge.
