Perrysburg fire causes $350,000 in damages

A fire yesterday caused a total of $350,000 damage at a house at 135 West Front St. in Perrysburg and killed two exotic birds, authorities said.

The homeowner, whose name was not released, was home when the fire was reported about 5:20 a.m. and escaped unhurt after he was awakened by smoke detectors and a neighbor who saw the fire.

It took firefighters 45 minutes to extinguish the main body of the blaze, by which time the birds were lost. It took an additional two hours to put out hot spots, firefighters said.

Damage was estimated at $250,000 to the house and $100,000 to its contents. Two adjacent houses were damaged, with estimates being $7,000 and $500, respectively, the report said.

The origin and the cause of the fire were not released.
