Toledo police get grant to combat violent crime

10/26/2007

Toledo police yesterday received a $482,425 grant to help combat violent crime and reduce gun-related violence.

The department, along with seven others in northern Ohio, received a portion of the more than $5 million in grant money from the Northern Ohio Violent Crime Consortium Initiative.

Law enforcement agencies will use the money to create a statewide plan to address violent crime and gun violence.

Strategies include target enforcement, directed patrols, and warrant sweeps. The Toledo police gang task force will coordinate the department s efforts.
