A fire of undetermined origin early Saturday destroyed a warehouse in the 500 block of Troy Street near Jamie Farr Park in North Toledo, authorities said.

The first fire crews arrived about 2:20 a.m. and saw heavy flames coming from a single-story building at 509 Troy near Chase Street, firefighters said. They were soon joined by a back-up crew, Fire Lt. Michael Duran said.

Firefighters fought the blaze aggressively for about an hour until there were fears the structure would collapse and firefighters pulled outside.

They continued to fight the blaze from the outside for two hours until it was declared under control about 4:30 a.m., by which time the structure was a total loss, Lieutenant Duran said.

The Lucas County auditor’s Web site indicates the 1949 building is currently in foreclosure. Investigators are trying to determine who owns the building, the lieutenant said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation Saturday morning.
