A Toledo woman was arrested and charged with aggravated assault after she was accused of stabbing her boyfriend early Tuesday during an altercation in a North Toledo residence, Toledo police said.

Eric Griffin, 34, whose address was not released, suffered a punctured lung and was taken to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, police said. A hospital spokesman said she had no information about a person by that name.

Ebony Smith, 26, who gave her address as 1814 South Ottawa Cove Drive, was being held in the Lucas County jail pending arraignment Wednesday, sheriff s deputies said.

The stabbing was reported about 1:58 a.m. at 1725 Fredonia Ave., police said.

Police officers arrived a short time later and found Mr. Griffin with a puncture wound in the upper-middle part of his back. He told them his live-in girlfriend had stabbed him in the back during an altercation in an upstairs bedroom, officers said in a police report.

Officers then went to the upstairs bedroom where they found Ms. Smith and arrested her. She appeared highly intoxicated and highly agitated at the time, according to the report.

Ms. Smith, who had no visible injuries, told officers that she punched Mr. Griffin and pushed him to the ground in self-defense, police said.

No weapon was found at the scene, officers said.
