Drivers urged not to leave vehicles with keys inside

Toledo police are urging motorists to protect their vehicles from the seasonal surge in thefts by not leaving them running unattended.

Since January, about 70 unlocked vehicles have been easily stolen with keys left in the ignition. When colder temperatures tempt drivers to leave their vehicles running to warm them up, they become an easy target for thieves, police said.

The department will remind drivers to protect themselves from such thefts with a "Keep your keys to keep your car" campaign.
