Police seeking clues in downtown assault

Toledo police are looking for information about an attack March 6 during which a 57-year-old man was hit from behind as he got out of his car in the downtown area, authorities said.

Roger Martin was struck from behind about 9 a.m. at Madison Avenue and 11th Street. Mr. Martin turned around and was hit in the face, authorities said.

He then grabbed the suspect, who continued to hit him, and the two fell to the ground. They struggled until Mr. Martin got on top of the suspect and told the man to leave him alone.

The suspect walked away, but came back. That's when Mr. Martin picked up the suspect's hat and ran to safety, authorities said.

The suspect was described as black, between 40 and 50 years old, 5 feet, 10 inches tall, and weighing 190 pounds. He had black hair and a beard.
