Man fatally shot in South Toledo

A man was fatally wounded when he was shot early Monday on Thornwood Drive off Airport Highway in South Toledo, police said.

Adrian Wheeler, 20, of 481 Elmdale Ct., was pronounced dead later in the morning at the University of Toledo Medical Center, the former Medical College of Ohio Hospital, officers said. The victim was shot once in the chest, according to police.

The shooting occurred about 1 a.m. at 821 Thornwood, police said. Officers responded shortly after receiving reports of shots fired at that location and found shell casings in the parking lot.

As of 7 a.m., police were still looking for the gunman. There are reports that a gold-colored vehicle was involved in the incident.
