Bond set at $550,000 for Toledo murder suspect

Bond was set at $550,000 during an arraignment Wednesday morning in Toledo Municipal Court for a man accused of fatally shooting a woman in North Toledo Monday.

Solomon Copeland, 53, of 1011 Paxton St., was charged with murder and aggravated burglary. He remains in the Lucas County jail.

Copeland is accused of shooting Tammy Nelson, 42, of 2828 D St., once in the chest and the right arm. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sgt. Tim Noble said it appears the shooting stemmed from an argument at the D Street address during which Copeland was cut.

A 53-year-old man accused of fatally shooting a woman whose body was found Monday in an alley in North Toledo is being held in the Lucas County jail without bond, authorities said.

Solomon Copeland, of 1011 Paxton St., is scheduled to be arraigned today in Toledo Municipal Court on murder and aggravated burglary charges, according to court records.

He was arrested about 8:30 a.m. yesterday at 616 East Central Ave., police said.

The victim, Tammy Nelson, 42, of 2828 D St., was found about 6:25 p.m. in an alley at the rear of the 2900 block of A Street, just south of Bronson Avenue, about three blocks from her home. She had been shot once in the chest and right arm. She was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.

Nelson died from a single gunshot wound to the chest, which pierced her heart, Dr. Cynthia Beisser, a Lucas County deputy coroner, said.

Police said it appears the shooting stemmed from an argument between Copeland and Nelson at the D Street address during which Copeland was cut.

After the fight, Nelson and Copeland, who had some type of relationship, left the residence. They met a short time later while walking down Bronson in opposite directions, police said.

Copeland and Nelson got into another argument, and Copeland is accused of firing the fatal shots then, police said.

Last night, police were continuing to investigate the death of Adrian Wheeler, 20, of 481 Elmdale Ct. He had been shot in the chest. He was found about 1 a.m. Monday in a parking lot in front of an apartment building at 821 Thornwood Drive, near Airport Highway.

He was pronounced dead about 30 minutes after arriving at the University of Toledo Medical Center, the former Medical College of Ohio Hospital.

Wheeler died of a single gunshot wound to the chest, Dr. James Patrick, Lucas County coroner, said.
