6/7/2008

Two pit bulls were killed by authorities in separate incidents early yesterday, authorities said.

Police shot and killed the first dog just after midnight while exercising a search warrant in the 300 block of Kenilworth Avenue, Lucas County Dog Warden Tom Skeldon said.

An investigator from the dog warden s office was told by police to leave the animal s remains with the owners.

Police shot and wounded another dog in the 2000 block of Joffre Avenue about 6 a.m. yesterday that was later euthanized in the dog warden s office by a veterinarian, Mr. Skeldon said.

Neighbors had complained to police that the dog was unrestrained and menacing the neighborhood, though the dog did not reportedly bite anyone, Mr. Skeldon said. Police shot after the dog became aggressive with them, he said.
