Driver in hit-skip found, Monroe County sheriff says

MONROE The alleged driver in a hit-skip crash on North Stony Creek Road that injured a woman from Carleton, Mich., early Saturday was found yesterday by a Monroe County sheriff s deputy.

The driver, who was not identified pending formal charges, admitted involvement in the incident in Frenchtown Township, a sheriff s news release said.

The driver was arrested on unrelated charges, the release said.

A sheriff s deputy saw a damaged vehicle on North Dixie Highway matching the description of the sport utility vehicle that struck the woman.

Elizabeth M. Hughes, 25, was walking west on the south shoulder of North Stony Creek Road near War Road just after 1 a.m. Saturday when she was struck by an eastbound SUV.

She was in critical condition in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, where she was flown by helicopter.

The crash remains under investigation.
