Sheriffs group to honor Toledo s Block Watch

6/24/2008

The Toledo Neighborhood Block Watch Program will hold a press conference at 3 p.m. this Thursday to announce an award it will be receiving next week in Indianapolis from the National Sheriffs' Association.

The association recognizes two law enforcement agencies and one neighborhood watch group that excel at promoting neighborhood watch in their communities.

Lucas County Sheriff James A. Telb nominated the Toledo program in March, and the national association notified the program s chairman, Michael Dearth, in May about the honor.

The Azalea Park Neighborhood Watch program in Durham, N.C., which was formed in response to arson fire damage in an apartment complex, won the award in 2007.

The Toledo program s mission is to form a partnership with community volunteers to create safer and more wholesome neighborhoods.
