Toledo officer charged in dispute with his wife

A Toledo police officer will appear in Sylvania Municipal Court next month on charges that he kept his wife from leaving their apartment and from calling 911 during an argument, authorities said.

Officer Richard A. Wilson, 50, of Springfield Township, was charged with misdemeanor unlawful restraint and felonious disruption of public service, court documents show.

He is to appear on those charges at 8:30 a.m. July 2.

Mr. Wilson was released on his own recognizance after turning himself in to the Lucas County Sheriff's Department.

The suspect and his wife, Erika Wilson, 44, were arguing about 7:30 p.m. Sunday, after he asked her for money. She had accused him of using her son's computer to look at pornographic Web sites the day before, authorities said.

Mrs. Wilson told deputies her husband refused to let her use the phone to call for help. She tried to leave their apartment, but her husband grabbed her wrists and blocked the doorway, according to the police report.

Mrs. Wilson told police she moved out of their apartment and is staying with a friend.

Mr. Wilson has been a patrol officer for the Toledo Police Department since 1983, Toledo Capt. Ron Navarro said.
