Authorities yesterday identified the man found Tuesday in Swan Creek near the Owens Corning corporate headquarters in downtown Toledo as Larry Mead, 52.

Mr. Mead apparently was homeless and had stayed at the Cherry Street Mission from time to time, authorities said.

The preliminary cause of his death was drowning, but the exact cause is pending toxicology test results, according to the Lucas County Coroner's Office.

The captain of the city of Toledo's Swan Creek Explorer was giving a boat tour when he spotted the body shortly before 2 p.m. and called 911, authorities said.

Toledo police Sgt. Phil Toney said it appeared the body had been in the water for some time.
