Bones discovered on island examined

7/22/2008

A man kayaking down the Maumee River Saturday, north of the Conant Street bridge, discovered several bones on a nearby island, said Bob Hannon, a Lucas County coroner's investigator.

The bones appear to be old and apparently are vertebral, hip, and pelvic remains. It has not been determined whether they are human remains.

The man apparently retrieved the bones from Audubon Island about 9 a.m., took them home, and then called police.
