Toledo police have arrested a suspect accused of murdering an East Toledo man killed July 15 while riding his bicycle to work, authorities said.

Dounche Jones, 19, of 235 Western Ave., was arrested about 1:30 a.m. Thursday at Bogart s Bar, 1402 South Ave. near Spencer Street in South Toledo, officers said. He was being held in the Lucas County Jail Thursday morning, pending arraignment Friday at Toledo Municipal Court, sheriff s deputies at the jail said.

He has been charged with murder and also faces an underage drinking charge.

The victim, David Babcock, 46, of 908 Kingston Ave. was shot once in the mouth outside a house at 812 Western Ave. about 5:45 a.m., police said. He died shortly after arrival at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center.

Toledo police vice Detective William Bragg spotted Mr. Jones as he left the back door of the bar and stopped in the parking lot. Detective Bragg then called police. An arrest warrant had been issued the day before for Jones, authorities said.

Uniformed police officers arrived a short time later and saw the suspect ascending a flight of stairs to an apartment above the bar. They ordered him down at gunpoint. After he complied, they took him into custody, police said.

Police said that witnesses had heard Mr. Babcock and another man arguing prior to the shooting.
