COLUMBUS A Toledoan is among 21 people who have become members of the Ohio Highway Patrol auxiliary, which provides assistance to troopers.

Christopher M. Rutledge recently graduated from the first auxiliary class in three years, the patrol said.

He participated in an eight-day training program that included firearm familiarization, traffic and criminal laws, self-defense, cultural sensitivity, and assisting in crash investigations.

The unarmed auxiliary members, who are not paid for their work, assist troopers at crash scenes and traffic stops and with traffic control, disaster relief, and special detail support, the patrol said.
