Feds hold man who fled Toledo 2 years ago

One of America's Most Wanted who was nearly caught two years ago while hiding out in Toledo has been arrested.

Lorenzo Curry, 34, was taken into custody about 8 p.m. Tuesday in a Detroit apartment where he had been staying since fleeing Toledo, said U.S. Deputy Marshal Dawn Izgarjan, of Louisville.

Curry, a Chicago native, has been a fugitive since 2003 after running from check counterfeiting charges in Louisville, Ms. Izgarjan said.

He previously was convicted of armed robbery, aggravated assault, battery, and burglary, she said.

Curry's girlfriend, Janora Sanders, 25, also was arrested on Tuesday. She is wanted on a probation violation from an original charge of check counterfeiting, Ms. Izgarjan said.

Curry and Sanders had been on the run together for about six years with their young daughter Aalyiha, who has been sent to her grandmother in Kentucky, Ms. Izgarjan said.

U.S. marshals nearly caught up with the couple in Toledo in September, 2006, after Curry's case appeared on the television show America's Most Wanted. Viewers contacted authorities letting them know he was working as a barber in central Toledo.

Believed to have lived in Toledo for a year or two, they quickly fled at that time and apparently have been in Detroit since.

Curry also was working as a barber in Michigan, Ms. Izgarjan said.

Curry and Sanders are being held in the Wayne County jail. They have waived a removal hearing and will be taken to the Western District of Kentucky within the week, Ms. Izgarjan said.
