Tip sought on vandalism at Toledo Lighthouse

The Coast Guard s Investigative Service is seeking information about vandalism recently discovered at the Toledo Harbor Lighthouse.

Personnel from the Coast Guard s Toledo Station discovered the damage while doing maintenance at the lighthouse Tuesday afternoon. Papers were burned, tools were missing, electrical wiring was pulled, and an urn containing a mascot animal s remains was damaged.

The lighthouse s navigational beacon was not affected. Anyone convicted of damaging or trying to damage a navigational aid is subject to a fine of up to $250,000, 10 years in prison, or both, the Coast Guard said.
