FOSTORIA There was a fire Friday afternoon at the Seneca Wire and Manufacturing Co., but authorities would not release details of the severity.

The manufacturing firm at 319 South Vine St. was heavily damaged by a fire in July, 2004, during which the roof collapsed into the 340,000-square-foot building.

The firm is one of the oldest manufacturing companies in Fostoria and in 2004 employed about 135 people.

Fostoria city officials received a $500,000 state grant in 2005 to help the company open a new facility. The company planned to establish a subsidiary, FENIX LLC, in Wapakoneta.

Seneca, according to its Web site, is a full range wire producer. The company has the ability to clean, draw, shape draw, anneal, anneal in process, roll, oil temper, and induction temper a wide variety of steel grades, the Web site states.
