A Delta man was charged Sunday with aggravated vehicular assault stemming from a two-car crash in Swanton Township on Saturday afternoon that left a Delta woman seriously injured.

Melissa M. Wanless, 32, was in serious condition Sunday night in Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center, where she was flown for treatment.

Troopers with the Toledo post of the Ohio Highway Patrol said she was driving a sport utility vehicle north on State Rt. 64 at 3:52 p.m. when a southbound car driven by Kristopher F. Hawkins, 31, of Delta went left of center. The car struck the SUV, which went off the right side of the road and overturned, throwing Ms. Wanless out, the patrol said.
