BOWLING GREEN — A former Wood County sheriff’s deputy who was a resource officer for Eastwood Local Schools is under investigation for a possible inappropriate relationship with a middle school student, Sheriff Mark Wasylyshyn said Monday.

The deputy, who was not named, was a 23-year veteran of the department and retired March 18, the sheriff said.

The results of the investigation will be given to the Wood County Prosecutor’s Office to determine if charges are warranted, he said.

Sheriff Wasylyshyn said there was no evidence of physical or sexual contact between the female deputy and the student. The incident involved “poor judgment on the part of the deputy.”

The investigation began with a report made last month to the school, which in turn contacted the sheriff’s office. The sheriff said he was not certain who originated that report.

The county children’s services agency was called to work with deputies on the investigation, he said.
