The man accused of shooting at an Oregon police officer remains at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center for a gunshot wound sustained by a second officer.

Police were called to Piccadilly East Apartments, 2750 Pickle Rd., just after 5 a.m. Sunday with a report of two brothers fighting, according to a police report.

When police arrived, Jeff Belew, 23, fired at Sgt. Jeff Martin, who was the first officer to arrive. Officer Don Sekulski was on scene moments later and returned fire when Mr. Belew refused to drop his weapon, police said.

Officer Sekulski shot Mr. Belew once, hitting him in the upper right torso area.
