DUNDEE, Mich. — The driver for a Michigan courier service was arrested Tuesday for allegedly stealing narcotics that were supposed to be delivered to Walgreens drugstores in southeast Michigan and the Toledo area.

The 50-year-old employee of City Transfer Co. Inc. of Plymouth, Mich., is being held in the Monroe County jail without bond on one count of possession with intent to deliver narcotics. He is to be arraigned today in Monroe County District Court.

Dundee Police Chief Dave Uhl said the suspect, who has worked 15 years for City Transfer Co., was caught stealing drugs destined for the Dundee Walgreens while under surveillance by Dundee police, Michigan State Police Western Wayne Narcotics Team, and Walgreens loss prevention.

A man who identified himself as a vice president for City Transfer Co. but who would not give his name declined to comment.

Chief Uhl said the Walgreens stores in Ohio will be contacted to have them file reports on the thefts with their police departments. He said a Walgreens representative is working with City Transfer to audit drug shipments to determine the exact loss.
