BELLEVUE — Eastbound traffic on the Ohio Turnpike in Sandusky County was reduced to a single lane Wednesday night, hours after one tractor-trailer rear-ended another.

The crash occurred just before 5 p.m. in Townsend Township east of Fremont and north of Bellevue, authorities said. One of the rigs caught fire, igniting leaked diesel fuel on the pavement.

One person was taken to Physician’s Choice Hospital, Fremont, and another was taken to Firelands Regional Medical Center, Sandusky. Neither had life-threatening injuries, authorities said.

All three lanes of the eastbound turnpike were initially closed for more than two hours after the crash. Troopers with the Milan post of the Ohio Highway patrol were investigating.
