A man was shot Thursday afternoon and then drove himself for help at a nearby fire station, police said.

Toledo Police Sgt. Phil Toney said the 49-year-old victim was shot at least once in the chest about 12:45 p.m. He described the suspect as 18 years old and wearing a gray sweatsuit.

Sergeant Toney said the suspect approached the victim and asked him for a ride. He complied but it was unclear whether the suspect got inside the vehicle. At least one bullet pierced the vehicle's windshield.

The victim, whose name was not released, was transported to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center. He was transported from Toledo Fire Station 9 on South Avenue where he had driven after being shot.

Authorities are unsure where the shooting took place.

This is a developing story. Details will be published as they become available.
