Toledo police on Friday morning identified Jeffrey Comeau, 49, as the man who drove himself to a nearby fire station for help after being shot in the chest at least once Thursday.

He was shot about 12:45 p.m. by someone who first asked for a ride, police Sgt. Phil Toney said.

The suspect is described as an 18-year-old man wearing a gray sweatsuit.

Sergeant Toney said the suspect approached the victim and asked him for a ride. He complied, but it was unclear whether the suspect got inside the vehicle. Police were uncertain where the shooting took place.

The victim was taken to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center.
