3 arrested during sobriety checkpoint
4/30/2011A five-hour sobriety checkpoint near the University of Toledo Friday night into Saturday morning netted three driving-while-intoxicated arrests.
The Lucas County OVI Task Force held the checkpoint from 9 p.m. Friday to 2 a.m., stopping 520 vehicles on Dorr Street between Douglas and Secor roads, according to University of Toledo police. Of the three people arrested, one is younger than 21 years old.
The average blood-alcohol content level was 0.09 — the legal limit is 0.08.
Two vehicles attempted to flee the checkpoint, causing one vehicle to crash. The driver, whose name was not released, was charged with failure to comply, resisting, and a marked-lanes violation.
The other vehicle that fled was stopped on a side street where the driver, whose name was not released, was charged with driving while intoxicated, marked-lanes violation, and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
During the stops, police also arrested seven people for driving with a suspended license and issued four citations for driving without a license.
A total of 12 other citations were issued and nine nontraffic, four misdemeanor, and three felony arrests were made. In addition, four restraint citations were issued and 10 vehicles were seized.
The Ale House, 2633 West Bancroft St., and Jake’s Saloon, 2520 Dorr St., were issued civil citations for underage sale and underage furnishing.
Police confiscated one pound of marijuana and other drugs from a vehicle. The driver was charged with aggravated trafficking, aggravated possession of drugs, and driving while intoxicated.
