Patrol schedules Erie County checkpoint
5/12/2011SANDUSKY — The Ohio Highway Patrol will hold an impaired driver checkpoint Saturday evening in Erie County.
Chosen to best deter and intercept drivers who may be driving drunk or under the influence of drugs, the location of the checkpoint will be announced Saturday morning, the patrol said Thursday.
There were 415 OVI-related fatal crashes in which 462 people were killed last year in Ohio, according to provisional data. State troopers make on average 25,000 OVI arrests each year, said Lt. D. L. Edge, commander of the Sandusky Post.
The checkpoint is funded by a federal grant.
