Authorities are looking for a Monroe man who dragged a Monroe Police detective about 3/4 of a mile by car Tuesday after attempting to flee the scene in his vehicle.

According to authorities, Det. Tyler Dickerson approached the man and another subject at about 11:40 a.m. Tuesday after observing what appeared to be a drug transaction in the 100 block of East Front Street. While gathering information from the subjects, the driver attempted to leave, and Detective Dickerson became caught in the seat belt during the struggle.

The driver, identified as Matthew Scott Bertram, approximately 35 years old and from the Frenchtown area of Monroe County, drove with Detective Dickerson hanging onto the door of the vehicle to the intersection of East Elm Avenue and Riverview before stopping the vehicle. At that point, Detective Dickerson was able to free himself, authorities said. Information on whether Detective Dickerson sustained any injuries was not immediately available.

Bertram was reported to be driving a 2002 black Chevrolet Monte Carlo “Dale Earnhardt” edition, with a Michigan registration of 6KGW59. Anyone with information is asked to call the Monroe Police Department at 734-243-7070 or the department in their area if the vehicle is seen elsewhere.
