MONROE — Authorities seek the man who dragged a Monroe police detective about three-fourths of a mile with his car after the detective was caught in the car’s seat belt.

Detective Tyler Dickerson approached the man — identified as Matthew Bertram, about 35, of Monroe County’s Frenchtown Township — about 11:35 a.m. Tuesday after seeing what appeared to be a drug transaction in the 100 block of East Front Street.

Talking to the subjects, the driver attempted to leave with the detective caught in the seat belt.

The detective hung on to the door and window before the driver stopped at East Elm Avenue and Riverview. The detective freed himself and the driver got away. Authorities did not return calls for comment about whether Detective Dickerson was hurt.

The man who fled was reported to be driving a 2002 black Chevrolet Monte Carlo with a Michigan registration of 6KGW59. Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Monroe police at 734-243-7070 or the police department in his or her area if the vehicle is seen elsewhere.
