MONROE — Two people were rescued from Monroe Harbor after their small motorboat capsized Tuesday afternoon.

The identities of those rescued were not released.

The vessel was about 400 yards offshore near the Brest Bay Marina about 3:20 p.m., said PO Michael Martin of the Coast Guard Toledo station. Someone standing onshore saw the boat go under and phoned the Coast Guard. The two people, who were wearing life jackets, were pulled from the water by boaters from the marina and a Monroe County sheriff’s deputy who accompanied them.

While a Coast Guard crew was en route, the Frenchtown Township Fire Department established a command post onshore. The rescued boaters were evaluated by emergency medical crews.
