MARBLEHEAD, Ohio — A man who drowned in Lake Erie’s East Harbor has been identified by authorities, who have released further details on the boating mishap.

Donald Morrow, 55, of Hubbard, Ohio, was pronounced dead early Monday at Magruder Hospital, according to Ottawa County’s Danbury Township police.

He died near Dock 103 in the 400 block of Gravel Bar Road about 11:15 p.m. Sunday when he was trying to step onto his boat. He lost his balance and fell into the water, his wife, Carol, told police.

The Ottawa County dive team found his body on the bottom of the harbor, a boat slip away from the port side of his boat, about 12:27 a.m.

Mrs. Morrow, 57, told authorities she was trying to help her husband step onto the boat because he was intoxicated.

He did not resurface, police said in the report.

The couple were returning to the boat from the nearby Catawba Inn, police said.

Marblehead is about 40 miles east of Toledo.
