Booster fund in Sylvania reports loss of $22,775
5/26/2011Thousands of dollars were taken from a school's athletic boosters' account without consent in the last four years, according to a Sylvania police report.
From Nov. 1, 2006, until Aug. 1, 2010, $22,775 was taken from a Northview High School athletic boosters bank account, the report states.
Sylvania police Sgt. Justin Music said there is a suspect, but wouldn't say whether the suspect was a school employee. He said police are investigating, but it is still "at an infancy" stage.
"We do have a suspect and we will be looking into it further," Sergeant Music said. "The main thing with it is that it has been going on for a while."
Kimberly Sarmento, secretary of the boosters club, reported the money missing to police on May 19.
"The booster club found themselves in an unfortunate situation," she said. "We've taken steps and created procedures to make sure it doesn't happen again."
Ms. Sarmento declined further comment.
Superintendent Brad Rieger, through the school's spokesman, Nancy Crandell, declined to comment because of the investigation.
