Speeders beware: Toledo police are warning of a week-long traffic enforcement effort during the holiday weekend with an emphasis on speeders and people who are not wearing seat belts.

The increased enforcement, whose overtime is funded by a federal grant and administered by the state, will begin Friday and last through June 4.

Toledo police have worked special traffic enforcement programs since Oct. 1 and are concentrated in problem areas around the city, resulting in 1,098 vehicle stops and 954 citations.

Of those tickets, 640 were issued for speeding.

Police said the emphasis includes school zones, construction areas, and major thoroughfares.

Lt. Jeff Sulewski warned motorists that the minimum fine for speeding is $143.
